Designing for Kids

Treasure Island

Treasure Island IdentityTreasure Island PostcardTreasure Island was the summer camp theme for the children's ministry at New Life Community Church. They wanted a Survivor-type look. With three outrageously cool (if I do say so myself) designs to choose from, they had a hard time deciding, but finally settled on the one pictured above. I'd like to give credit for the island silhouette to the artist, Zoran Milic, who kindly provided the artwork on iStockphoto.com.

Along with the logo, New Life needed some promotional materials. The postcards are pictured. They also had a volunteer sign up sheet, PowerPoint slides and T-shirts developed, all based on the island theme.

Shortly after completing the Treasure Island work, Faith Community Church called upon me to create a look for an upcoming series for Faith Kidz, their children's ministry. The series would be based on superheroes and needed to have a slick, comic book style.

After emblem was finalized, artwork for banners was needed to promote the series. Those continued the comic book theme, and really set the tone. The large banners, shown at here, were actually displayed by separating the banners into three sections and hung adjacent to each other. The six single baners, three of which are shown below, were displayed during the week that the topic was being covered. For information on the credits for the illustrations used in the banners, please see the entry on iStockphoto.com.

As I said, these were some of the most fun projects I've done. And to know they may have had a small part in helping kids have a relationship with Jesus, well, that just makes it that much sweeter.
